We have a great question today from Gileam in Quebec who asks, I see so many people asking, Will this increase my page rank?
Could you tell them once again that ranking is not just about page rank, but also 200 different signals?
And while being there, why don't you tell us about those other 200 different signals?
So I'm happy to say that, yes, page rank, while important, it's one of the more important of the 200 signals that we have is still one of only 200 different signals that we use in ranking.
People shouldn't be backlink obsessed.
They shouldn't suffer from Bo, as I like to say.
So, page rank does matter.
But it's not the only thing that matters.
As far as the other signals that are used in rankings.
There's a lot of stuff that's common sense, not just the links, but think about anchor text.
And then think about the content that's on the page.
There's the URL of the page, the title of the page, whether something is in a header or not, there's content on the page, there's even proximity.
So if Britney is up here and Spears is down here, that's different than Britney Spears right next to each other.
So there's a lot of different signals that we use in our ranking, and a lot of them are really common sense things that you could probably guess the secret sauce is in the blending and exactly how we wait.
Different signals and which ones we think really matter a lot in terms of returning high quality search results.
But again, page rank is one of only two more than 200 different signals that we use.
So please don't get obsessed with page rank and only pay attention to page rank.
If you're thinking about whether you're users are going to have a good experience, whether your visitors are going to be happy, and whether they're going to want to tell their
friends to come to your site or check it out.
That's the Mark where website will often be very successful.
